God Is Not Afraid of Your Mess
I used to think God only wanted the cleaned-up version of me. You know—the version that shows up to church smiling, hides the sin, and keeps it all together. But I found out the hard way that God doesn’t wait until we’re perfect. He meets us right in the middle of our wreckage.
When everything in my life felt like a storm—when I was spiritually dry, emotionally worn out, and ashamed of who I had become—God didn’t turn away. He drew closer. That’s how I know He’s not afraid of your mess, either.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8, NKJV)
That verse stopped me in my tracks. It’s not “after you’ve fixed yourself.” It’s while you’re still struggling. That’s the gospel.

You Don’t Have to Get Clean Before You Come
This lie almost ruined me: “God only loves the good version of me.” But Scripture—and personal experience—say otherwise.
Jesus didn’t come for people who had it all together. He came for the weary, the broken, the lost, and the hurting. He said:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NKJV)
That includes the tired mom crying in the shower, the man hiding his addiction, the teen who feels too far gone. It includes me. It includes you.
And if you’re trying to get back into God’s Word but don’t know where to start—that’s okay too. One thing that helped me was a simple Chronological Bible Reading Plan. It took the pressure off. No guilt for missing a day. No shame. Just a path forward, even in the mess.

He’s Not Shocked by Your Struggles
There were things I didn’t even want to say out loud—thoughts, habits, doubts. I thought they’d disqualify me from being close to God. But nothing about my life surprised Him.
He already knows. And He still chose me. Still loved me. Still called me to Himself.
If you’re feeling that way now, I promise you’re not alone. I even wrote about that raw season in this article where I learned God walks with us—not away from us—when we’re weak.

Stop Hiding—God Already Sees It All
I used to think if I just pretended long enough, maybe I could convince God I wasn’t that bad. But all I was doing was hiding—just like Adam and Eve in the garden.
“Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, ‘Where are you?’” (Genesis 3:9, NKJV)
God knew where they were. He always knows. But He still came looking—not with a lightning bolt, but with a question. That’s love.
You don’t have to hide your pain, your mess, or your questions. God isn’t offended by it. He wants to bring healing through it.
If you’ve been holding back because you think your past is too dirty or your faith isn’t strong enough, let me gently tell you—you’re exactly the kind of person Jesus came for. He came for sinners. And thank God for that, because I’m one of them too.

God Turns Mess Into Ministry
Here’s the part that still amazes me: God doesn’t just forgive our mess—He uses it.
My biggest mistakes? He’s used them to help others. My worst regrets? He’s turned them into wisdom I get to share. Maybe even this post you’re reading now is proof of that.
God doesn’t waste pain.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28, NKJV)
If you’ve ever thought God couldn’t use someone like you, you’re in good company. So did Moses. So did David. So did Paul. Yet God used them all—flaws, failures, and all.
Need help starting fresh? Try writing down your journey. Reflect with a Bible study guide that helps you slow down. Let God speak through the mess.

You’re Not Too Far Gone for Grace
I remember thinking, “There’s no way God still wants me after what I’ve done.” That shame nearly crushed me. But then I opened the Word and read:
“The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.” (Psalm 103:8, NKJV)
That verse broke me in the best way. His mercy isn’t limited. His grace isn’t small. He’s not looking for people who’ve never messed up—He’s looking for people who will finally surrender.
That’s what I had to do. And when I did, He didn’t push me away. He pulled me in.
If you’re wrestling with guilt, doubt, or feeling unworthy of even picking up your Bible, consider starting with one that’s made just for you. I carry my custom engraved NKJV Bible everywhere now—not because I’m perfect, but because I need truth in front of me daily.

You Can Start Again—Even Today
Maybe you’ve been distant from God. Maybe you’ve fallen into old patterns or feel numb to prayer. I’ve been there. I’ve stared at the ceiling at 2 a.m. wondering where my fire went.
But friend, you can always come back.
Every day is a new mercy. “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning.” (Lamentations 3:22–23, NKJV)
You don’t have to wait for Sunday. You don’t have to wait until the mess is cleaned up.
If you want something tangible to help you reset spiritually, I’d recommend grabbing one of our digital chronological Bible plans. It’s simple, clear, and easy to follow—even if you’ve never read the Bible front to back before.

Even the Strongest Christians Struggle
One of the biggest lies we buy into is that once we’re saved, we’ll never stumble again. But the truth is, even mature believers mess up.
Paul—the same man who wrote much of the New Testament—said:
“For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.” (Romans 7:19, NKJV)
Sound familiar? That constant tension, the struggle between flesh and Spirit? You’re not alone in it.
That’s why I’m open about my mess. Not to glorify sin, but to remind someone like you that you’re not the only one who fights these battles. We walk with a God who doesn’t run from our failure—He steps into it and carries us through.
If you’re feeling worn down and wondering if God still walks with you, I shared my own journey in this post: When you’re weak, God still walks with you. He’s never left.

Faith Doesn’t Mean Fake Smiles
You don’t have to pretend to be okay when you’re not. I used to think being a Christian meant always smiling, always being “blessed and highly favored,” and never showing struggle.
But Jesus didn’t hide His emotions. He wept (John 11:35). He felt anguish. He cried out to the Father in Gethsemane.
Being real isn’t weakness—it’s Christlike.
That’s why I love surrounding myself with things that keep me grounded in truth, not fake perfection. Even something as small as a Christian coffee mug with a reminder of God’s love can shift my mindset in the morning when I’m dragging.
Let go of the pressure to appear perfect. God already sees the cracks—and He loves you right there in the middle of it all.

Come as You Are… But Don’t Stay There
God absolutely accepts us where we are—but He loves us too much to leave us there.
When I first came to Christ, I was a wreck. I brought in pain, addiction, pride, and all kinds of brokenness. And you know what? He didn’t flinch.
But slowly, through Scripture, prayer, and surrounding myself with truth, He started reshaping me. It wasn’t instant. It still isn’t easy. But it’s real.
If you’re ready to take your walk deeper, don’t try to go it alone. Start with something small—maybe commit to a 30-day Bible reading plan that helps you reconnect with God daily.

You’re Not Disqualified from Purpose
This is something I wish someone had told me earlier: Your past doesn’t cancel God’s plan for your future.
David committed adultery and murder—yet God called him a man after His own heart. Peter denied Jesus three times—yet he was chosen to help lead the early Church.
If God can use them, He can use you.
That’s why I created a space on PlansWithJesus.com—not for perfect people, but for people like us. People who’ve fallen, who are healing, and who are learning to walk again with Jesus.
If you want to be reminded of that truth every day, check out our Christian wall art collection. Hang something in your home that whispers grace when shame tries to shout.
